ROTATE Rotate, flip, and straighten
About this tool
A sideways phone photo, a scan that went in upside down, a horizon that tilts a few degrees, a selfie that came out mirrored: these are rotation problems. Quarter turns and flips are exact; the pixels are only rearranged, never resampled, so nothing is lost.
Straightening by a small angle is different, because a tilted rectangle no longer fills a rectangular frame. You choose how to handle the corners: crop in just enough to hide them, or keep the whole image and fill the corners with transparency, white, or black.
How to use it
- Upload an image; drop it, browse, or paste from the clipboard.
- Click Rotate left, Rotate right, or Rotate 180° until it's the right way up.
- Use Flip horizontal or Flip vertical to mirror it, for example to un-mirror a selfie.
- To fix a tilted horizon, drag the Straighten slider or type an exact angle, and choose whether to crop the corners or keep them.
- Download as PNG, JPG, WebP, or SVG.
Tips
- Straighten against something that should be level or upright, such as a horizon, a door frame, or a line of text.
- Small angles go a long way: most tilted photos need between 0.5° and 3°.
- Keeping the whole image adds empty corners; choose PNG or WebP to keep them transparent, or pick white or black to fill them.
FAQs
Does rotating an image reduce its quality?
Not for 90° and 180° turns or flips; those move pixels without changing them. Straightening by other angles resamples the image, which softens it very slightly, like any editor.
Why does my photo look sideways on some sites but not others?
Phone photos often store their orientation as a tag instead of turning the pixels. This tool reads the tag on upload and saves an image whose pixels are actually upright, so it displays the same everywhere.
How do I un-mirror a selfie?
Click Flip horizontal and download. Text in the photo will read the right way round again.
What happens to the corners when I straighten a photo?
With Crop to fill, the image is enlarged just enough to hide them, trimming a little from the edges. With Keep whole image, the canvas grows and the corners are filled with your choice of transparency, white, or black.
Is my image uploaded to rotate it?
No. Rotation happens on your device in the browser; the image never leaves it.
